In the B&W in Colour challenge could I have made a selective colour adjustment?

My image is taking a bit of a hammering and one of the flaws in it that I was aware of was that some elements that should have been white had a colour cast due to the fact the objects themselves were not white to start with. There is other white in the image. By making such an adjustment the objects would have been much closer to white. Would this have been legal given the extra rules of the challenge?

Perhaps I should have asked this before voting but never mind, you learn things the hard way.
