I'm looking to get at least a 2.8 lens to replace my kit lens. I looked under the equipment broswer and aside from a few mm on some of the lenses I can't figure out what the difference is other than price? Can anyone help me out here?
Sigma 24-60mm f/2.8 EX DG - $339
Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG - $290
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro - $354
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DF - $439
I'm looking to shoot kids' ballet and I will be selling prints to parents.
Would I be better off with:
Tamron SP AF 28-105mm f/2.8 LD Aspherical IF - $499
Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di - $299
or maybe:
Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.8 ATX Pro-SV - $249
The Nikon stuff is 3X the price. Is it really worth it? |

| Don't know any of the lenses you mention, but I have a Tokina 12-24mm that I'm very happy with. I'm also considering getting the Tokina 28-70mm, which got quite a good rating in the database at photozone.de (the actual database is here) |

Will you be right by the stage or further away? I can't help you with the 'is Nikon lens worth it' question, but here is a breakdown on all the Sigma lenses and here is a breakdown of the Tamron lenses. It seems some of the ones you listed aren't made anymore. Hope that helps a bit.
