I want the fish's face to stand out more. How could I do that.

She lookes too sharp and does not stand out against the coral behind her face. I sharpened but very very little.

The thin whitish/blue lines around her tail are actually her fins...the tips of her fins are clear.

What do you think of the bokeh?

Ah, you've fixed it.

I think with such a brightly colored fish, you would want to burn (darken) the background a bit to really make her stand out.

Quick edit. Selected background with magic lasso tool. Added a new layer in Soft Light Mode. Filled selection with Black and Faded layer to taste.

Edit:

Same as above, just added a new Hue/Sat Adjustment layer with the selection to desaturate the background a bit.

What about just desaturating the background?

Prolly for non-artsy-fartsy folks who like cheese. Btw, I added a "partial" desaturation version just for you!! :P

just clone in some of the bluish tinted bokeh over the white area around the fishes face. you'll want to use a mask.

the blue in the BG should make the orange pop right out.

Could color-shift the whole background to blue for a nice complementary color approach.

I like the natural greens better...the blue looks too fake to me.

Thanks for the PS tips.

just the part around the head needs to have a blue tone, use a mask to mess with that area solely, or clone in the blue. don't fartsy me - i've already been there today...

i don't have any software installed yet, so verbage will have to suffice.

Yanko - can you explain to me how to do selective desaturation. I'm new to Photoshop and am trying to figure it out.

Here's one way: Tutorials :: Selective Desaturation Within the Basic Editing Rules

Some other good reading in the 'Tutorials' section of DPC, under the 'Learn' menu heading. ;^)
