I've decided I *need* a graduated ND filter for our upcoming trip to Mt. Baker.
Is there a big difference in quality between brands? A Sunpak filter is only $40, where as a B&W is closer to $100 |

What you're getting in the B+W for the extra $$ is flatter glass (less optical effect) and possibly a more neutral effect, which can be important, since you don't want a color shift in one half of your image. Whether that's worth the added cost is hard to say without knowing the quality of the Sunpak filter.
I had a Hoya SMC polarizer (not a bad filter at all) and it was visibly worse than my current B+W. FWIW, the B+W may or may not be multi-coated. Be careful about using a non multi-coated filter on the 24-70; you *will* see contrast reduction due to internal reflection, especially at the wide end. |
