Why do I feel so spammed???

A bit cocky, perhaps. :-) But, I truly think Bruce has a great passion for his work. I don't think he's spamming at all. Just has a few pet threads.

:-)

I am sorry if I came accross COCKY :-) I guess shooting for so many years allows a cirtain amount of confidence which may come accross as cocky.. SORRY to you all..

I think it's refreshing to get advice from someone who has the portfolio to back it up. Welcome to DPC, Bruce. :)

I agree with mk, you have the portfolio to back you up.

Oh man I cannot believe the path this thread has taken.

I love this thread, I'm willing to learn from all who are willing to teach, and sincerely appreciate the work that you, Bruce, have put into your portfolio.

Please continue to share whatever you feel inspired to share. I for one will be glad for any insight you give, and will attibute any kind of percieved attitude on your part to the imperfection of the written word.

Actions speak louder than words - and your actions to share what you know with this community are welcome and speak so much louder than any perception of "how" you share it.

Sorry the appreciative crowds aren't as likely to post their appreciation as the *edited* are to post their *edited*.

Re wide lenses and distortion!!!

Take a good look at my pictures, I am aware of distirtion and use it as a part of my style of shooting, I always possition my self/camera view point to avoid convergeing legs and pin heads or extended noses.

One thing to take into account when using any lens is its not the lens that courses distortion or alters perspective, its the view point/distance from the subject.

I love wide lenses because they make it possible to communicate closely and intimately with my subjects.

Bon lumier

Um, Bruce, I am a horse photographer, which a quick glance at my profile would sadly reveal, almost a one trick pony. So we're not talking the same thing, distance from my subjects is fairly critical!

Having a portfolio in no way justifies spam methods.

A user who has little or no previous involvement with DPC shows up and begins making "highly readable" forum posts in a fashion which encourages the reader to visit that user's business website.

Sounds a lot like spam, you gotta admit. You may chose to ignore that because he's a photographer, but remember - he's a teacher who offers workshops for a fee. Feels a lot like "Hey, free advertising space!!!!"

Bruce - the fact that you are "here" and respond does put you outside the "normal" world of "spam". I don't mean at all to accuse you of something that you don't / didn't intend to do. We ALL "promote" ourselves to some extent here, but that's not WHY we're here. We're here to enjoy the competitions and we use the forums as a type of social club. Personally, I would like to see you contributing photos to DPC challenges to "establish your bona fides" with me. Don't just pop over here and, in effect, say "I really love photography, come visit my site." There are HUNDREDS of highly qualified photogs here, and we generally don't use this site to advertise ourselves or what we do TO EACH OTHER. We're friends and we all respect that space.

I love your writeups, and you are very good at remembering and describing shoots. That's great, and I hope it continues. I just also hope that your involvement will be more than advertising for yourself and your excellent skills.

To those who want to call me *edited* and my comments as *edited*, grow up. Several red flags in my head popped up when I discovered Bruce's threads. These are classic forum spamming techniques, even if the writing is good and the content is appropriate. I have no problem at all with Bruce being a part of this community - in fact I encourage it, because he's VERY good - but I think it's inappropriate for his involvement to be ONLY about promoting his services, skills, or website.

Read it through and think about it. I'm not as stupid or rude as you want to believe.

I think you have a valid point there. If his only posts are to draw attention away from DPC, then they aren't really part of the "community". I personally would love to hear more from him. I think he knows a lot and is willing to share. I hope we'll see and hear more from him as a member of DPChallenge (emphasis on "challenge").

So Bruce... don't go away. Join in and have some fun. :-)

Also I really love to teach and am always willing how every simple or complicated will answer Qs advise etc etc

People only need to ask.
