I have a Wacom Intous 3 tablet and it all of a sudden quit working. The blue light stays on (solid) so it's getting power from my USB port but the mouse nor the pen will work. I can hook up another USB mouse and it works. I have tried all USB ports and called wacom. They gave me a RMA# and told me to send it back and they will repair or replace it.

But before I do that can spyware/adware removal programs (full version) effect the use of my wacom tablet. When booting up my computer gives me a hardware found little window but with a red question mark. I have updated the drivers and it shows installed under device manager and says "this hardware is working". The reason I ask is because it stopped working the day I installed two spyware/adware programs and a register cleaning program. The programs are:

1. Spyware doctor
2. XoftSpy SE
2. RegCure

And suggestions or thoughts. I miss my tablet while editing?

It's possible but not highly probable that the anti-spyware programs buggered things up. It's more likely that a registry cleaning tool did some damage.
What you should try is doing a system restore to a time prior to installing the spyware and registry cleaning software, and see if you get your tablet function back.

did you try deleting the driver and reistalling it again?

is the tablet plugged into a usb hub or directlyinto the computer? I had a problem when it was plugged into a hub.

Yes I have uninstalled the hardware and drivers and reinstalled. I worked for about an hour then stopped working again.

I keep mine plugged in. In the first USB port on the computer. I have the 9x12 so I use its mouse as a regular mouse.

hmm. did you do a heavy process with the pen or mouse when it stopped working? (sometimes that happens to me too)

otherwise I don't know.
know nothing about spyware, sorry.

no. I was just using the mouse navigating the web when the pointer stuck. I rebooted by pressing the windows key and going to shutdown/restart and it hasn't worked since.

ok. one more option ;) then I'm done!

did you try another pen point?

(oh, and now I realise your mouse doesn't work either. did you check the plastic thing from the tablet where you use the pen on (can't think of the word))

yea, i check out all hardware. I just don't want to do without it while wacom is trying to fix it or replace it. I also have to pay the shipping to them. They said it could take two to four weeks turn around time not counting shipping. ouch!

I purchased it from B&H, I wonder if they would replace???

are all of your USB ports USB 2.0?

Well before you send in your tablet for "repair", let's eliminate software-related issues - ESPECIALLY since it started acting buggy after installing that adware/spyware software. First off (assuming you have the install disc with the Wacom drivers), uninstall the Wacom software again. You also need to remove the hardware device from the system's list of devices so Windows can re-detect the device. To do so, go to Start -> Control Panel -> System, click on the Hardware tab, then click on the Device Manager button. One of the devices listed should be your Wacom tablet. Select the device, right-click on it, then select Uninstall.

Also, unless you paid for those three adware/spyware programs, I would uninstall those as well. In my opinion (and I have cleaned up A LOT of computers doing computer consulting on the side), the only two programs you need for adware/spyware removal are Spybot Search & Destroy ( //www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10401314.html?tag=lst-0-1 ) and Ad-aware ( //www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1 ). Download and install both of these (both are free). I recommend running Spybot first. Download all updates inside Spybot first, Immunize, then select Search & Destroy and Check for Problems. After Spybot has removed everything it finds, run Ad-aware (after getting updates for it as well of course). I recommend running a Full System Scan in Ad-aware instead of a Smart System Scan. After running the updated versions of both of these programs, your system should be totally rid of any adware or spyware.

Now restart the computer and let Windows re-detect the Wacom tablet. Reinstall the drivers from the install disc and you should be good to go! I have a feeling that Windows still has that device installed in Device Manager and needs to re-detect it from scratch. Of course, it also doesn't hurt to be free of adware/spyware and be running the right software either. ;) I hope that helps! :)
