Locked in a box above the River Thames in London for 44 days and only drinking water. Anyone have pictures of the crazy stunt. Heard rumours of "Flash Mobbing" him with laser pointers.

I'm going to London in a couple of weeks. If I end up in that area maybe I'll take a photo. I may also take a photo of the people waving bacon sandwiches at him. :-) |

I heard it was worse than that! :D
I admire the feat but he surely has to be a sucker for punishment...

As is going around the internet:
"If anyone wishes to join me in throwing sausages at David Blaine on
September 20, I extend a warm welcome. Any sign of food will break
his meditation and speed his metabolism, which in turn will set about
the important process of him digesting his own body. If anyone wishes
to join me: 5pm, September 20, beneath the box. Bring a sausage - the
David Blaine will be provided." |

I'd earmarked that day for an expedition to Butlers Wharf with a Paintball gun :D
Still - sausages sound good. |

Would paintball be considered a sports? I use to do tournaments a few years back but would people give lower scores for the question of it being a sport or not?

He's finally coming out Sun after 44 days in that box. I wonder what he's going to eat.
Wonder if anyone is going to submit a picture of him for the "alone" challenge.

His system will be so used to not having any food, that anything bigger than a small biscuit will probably kill him. He'll have to go straight onto a drip.

I'm surprised he hasn't died yet, doesn't really make sense that people can go for that long without eating... |

6 pints of lager and a chicken vindoloo should sort him out.

Here's a pic I took a few weeks ago of the area around David Blaine:

He's probably feeding off his oversized ego. Someone should smack him in the face with a pancake. |

I am also one who does not believe that all is as it seems.
I'd bet that the "water" line also feeds him some glucose, salts and other vitamins in liquid form.
When he came out he looked a bit thinner but someone who'd pushed their body to the point where it would break down muscles and organs for energy would not have looked quite as healthy nor been able to stand and walk so well.
My feelings on this are very strong. When a society has got to the point where starvation becomes a form of entertainment there has to be something wrong.
I can't imagine how it must feel to hear of his stunt for those many people around the world who are starving because they can't get food not because they think it's entertaining. At least the majority of those might not have access nor interest in international news.
Truly it makes me feel ill, the thought of it.
An amazing feat? I don't think so. |

there was a report that said they tested the water independently and nothing was found |

I once went without all food for 10 days (due to being v ill), and lived on water. In that time I lost 56 pounds (from weighing only 154-ish to begin with), and I couldn't walk 100 yeards without a rest.10 days. If I hadn't recocvered when i did, I'd jave been hopspitalised within another two days.
There is absolutely no way that this 'stunt' is as claimed.
The 1970's IRA hunger-striker died Bobby Sands (i.e. a hell of a lot worse off than Blaine) after 66 days. 44 days and still walking? My arse ...
PS. No support of/for the IRA suggested by the link - it's just intersting information

Prior to this stunt I respected him a lot for his amazing illusions and he always seemed to be in touch with his street-level audience. The Above the Below stunt moved him away from his core audience I think - thus the extreme reactions.
Anyway, I have at last found a degree of respect for this stunt after all. When he came out someone asked him "why did you do it?". He replied "it was performance art" and I thought - well fair enough then, as long as it's not being disguised as something more profound.
One good thing that's come out of it is that more people have a heightened awareness of starvation and, in my view I think he's actually done the world (to an unknown degree) a small favour.
Here's a pic I took of the crowd:

Whoops - thanks Tom!

Jon, I'm not surprised you posted a picture of the crowd. When I visited it quickly became obvious that people's reactions to the stunt were a lot more interesting, than a man in a box. I found it funny to see the sheer number of people stood describing the scene over their mobile phones and the cheers from the crowd at the slightest movement made by DB. Not to mention the people floating slices of salami past the box by attaching them to balloons. Quite a strange thing to see! :)
