In the body tag, replace the attribute background="images/back.gif" with a style attribute:

style="background:url('/images/back.gif') repeat-y #ddd;"

On displays larger than 1600px wide, the left-hand band repeats in an unattractive and distracting way. This style will avoid the repetition. Or, you could add this to your stylesheet file after removing the (deprecated) background and bgcolor attributes from the body tag:

body
{
background: url("/images/back.gif") repeat-y #ddd;
}
