I normally shoot RAW but I have a trip where it will be better to shoot RAW+JPG because I will want to print some at the local 1-hour place for friends/family without processing the RAW files (no access to computer with s/ware e.t.c.).

I would guess it's mostly 6x4 prints and maybe maybe the odd 5x7 and I want to obviously minimise the storage of these JPG's since I will junk them.

A few test shots show...
#1 Small Low - @275K - 1728x1152
#2 Medium Low - @530K - 2544x1696
#3 Small High - @600K

Could I get away with #1 or would #2 be a better choice.

If yo uprint at walmart or similar on a fuji frontier you can get by with 150 dpi - so your smallest will give you penty of size for that even at 5x7 and you could squeze out an 8x10 even. as for compression...i'd say make a test and see.

I bet you can make aceptable prints as long as you avoid diagonal lines...a few years ago I want away and shot on a lower compression to save and space and shot some sailing vessels - the diagonal mast stays were jaggy. (3mb camera). If you shoot faces and such you'll be fine i'm sure as there is no small details.
