I recently purchased a 20D (woohoo) and the battery charger I have for it is the CG-580. The charger has a little diagram on it that states that it will blink at different rates to indicate how much charge the battery on it has. The 100% indicator is a solid, always on light rather than blinking. If I put a battery on it will go through the series and arrive at solid, always on in a matter of seconds--indicating that the battery is fully charged. However, this seems ludicously fast. Yet when I put a pair of them in (using the battery grip) The camera goes from registering max battery life to low battery life in less than an hour. It seems like I should be getting way more out of the batteries than that. Anyone else out there who uses the CG-580 battery charger and has had a similar issue? Should I just not trust the charger light and leave it in for longer, or is there possibly faulty equipment to blame? Thanks.

You must have a dud... I have the very same charger, and while I do not stand around to watch how long it takes to charge a depleted battery, I can assure you that it does not happen in seconds.

I also own a 20D, and I have taken hundreds of images without recharging the battery.

I would....
a) leave the unit plugged in for a longer period of time to see if the charger is indeed functional... or

b) if possible return the charger and endeavour to get a new one that works properly.
