Hello!

First I want to say I'm thrilled with a 5.7. Its .6 better than my average so I have no complaints. I would like to know though if I could have potentially faired even better had I submitted a lighter image than I did. I have reprocessed my photo entry and would appreciate some feedback.

I'm still trying to pin down the best workflow for each type of image I submit so I hope seeing how the two compare from a voter's standpoint will be very beneficial for my future attempts.

Original

Reprocessed

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks!

My opinion, for what it's worth: I would have scored the lighter version slightly higher (+1) as it draws my attention to the fence more. I like how the background is lighter but not the ground in front of the fence.

Can't please everyone huh?

I like the original a lot better. Reasons being, the sky is a bit overblown, but in the original its not like OMG SO BRIGHT MY EYES. you can still see some detail in the clouds etc.

And also, I like how youve cropped the first one, its even, there is a wierd off symetry in the 2nd one with the even number 10 with and empty notch, if it was an odd number the notch would compliment the filling of the other one.

The detail and crispness of the reprocessed one is nice.
To make it a better photo, but not enter it in the challenge, is maybe lasso tool just the posts, reprocess just those, and leave the sky as is, or maybe up the contrast to make the clouds have even more detail and less overblown.

I think you made the right choice first off.

thats just my opinion, hope it helps?

Thank you both for your input!

I do see what you mean about the new one looking off-kilter. I was mostly looking at the addition of detail the lighter tone made and wasn't completely accurate with how I cropped. I think it looks a bit wonky with the extra space at the end too.

I don't have much experience with the lasso tool (I use Gimp but I'm sure there's an equivalent) so I'll have to give that one a try.

Thanks again to you both. :)
