is there any way to rotate custom brushes that you have made in Photoshop? There are times when I would like a brush to be used in a different direction but can't unless I rotate the whole picture. |

yup, easy... just have your brush selected, go into the Brushes window (Window -> brushes, or F5 by default). Once there go into shape dynamics and up the valus of any or all Angle jitter or roundness jitter... size jitter works well in combination with the other 2 as well. You'll have to do this everytime you select the brush unless you set it as a default for the brush. |

Try clicking on the paintbrush in the lefthand side of the top toolbar (under the File menu). |

Is there no "more options" button in that same bar? Sorry, I only have Elements here and that's how it works with that. |

I think you can "tear off" that palette of brushes once you drop it down from the top so that it will remain open. |

If it's not there just search your help menu for brushes, shape dynamics or jitter
It's been a while since I used 6.0 though... let me know if that didn't work. |

I have just about every version of Photoshop readily available except version 6.0! I know there's some reason it didn't last long, but I forget the specifics. |

i just found in the help it says "You can define a number of options for the default brushes. For custom brushes, only the name, spacing, and anti-aliased options can be changed." is this different in newer versions?

That's because you pre-define the custom brushes, before you make it a brush. Photoshop "knows" how to apply modifications to its built-in brushes, but not to your custom-defined shape.
Save the brush patterns in layers in a small Photoshop file; rotate/modify as needed, and define a new brush (or update an old one) from that. |
