Instead of identifying for everyone else, this time I'm asking for some wise souls to have a look :)
It was about two inches wide... |

Well if it didn't look like there was an earthquake occurring when you took the shot, it might be slightly identifiable... ;) |

Shup, smartass It was up the side of a very steep, slippery and rocky hill and it was hard to get a stable position! (muttergrumblejustnamethedamnedthing:P ) |

I'm clueless but I think it was greatandsmall that reccommended
bugguideI uploaded a photo and had an id in about a minute. |

Thanks, I'll try it :) I can identify wildflowers, grasses, birds, mammals, but insects I'm not so good at! |

It's an elegant sheep moth, Hemileuca eglanterina. |
