I know I have a long way to go but I'd like some critique on this.
Don't ding me their hair, though. I had to bribe them with cookies just to stand still for one minute.

There's some other ones here but not as good. They wanted to go out and play and I was encroaching on their time.

I don't think you're too far off there. The white shirts on the white background might be kind of hard to do. All that light is going to throw off your light meter as well.

what kind of a lighting set up do you have? Is it just on camera flash?

I looked at the link there are some very cute pictures in there. Some great in between shots of the kids laughing. :-)

Hi Lisa. Your kids are cute! :)

About the portrait however, there are several things that jump out at me right away: First, they are too close to the backdrop causing it to be as clear and in focus as they are. Moving them a few feet forward will allow the backdrop to fall out of focus and not be so distracting in the overall image. Second, red eye - that is easily fixable with most photo editing software and will greatly improve the image overall. And lastly, the lighting is very flat - all hitting the subjects from straight-on which isn't as flattering as directional or bounced light.

Have a read through this thread: Portrait Lighting all of it won't apply to your equipment / space / skill level, etc... but much of it should be very helpful to you.

Here is my setup...remember I'm very amateur at this. We're converting my son's old room into a studio/office so pardon the mess....

In this first pic you can see my tripod is. I had the integrated flash, and I adjusted the flash meter on the camera to where it looked alright to me when the pic came out. In my link above, you can see where it was too dark. To the left of where the girls stood, there's my son's desk lamp with a 75 watt bulb in it. To the right on the doorknob is a 250 watt mechanic's lamp that I stole from my husband (thanks to Joey L. for the idea). I put a white sheet over the lamp to diffuse it.

In the second pic, Vanna there is showing you the 250 watt light.

Cute but honery as hell.

Thanks for your suggestions. The light from my integrated flash was directly in front of them. I'll read through the link. :)
