This time i am not asking for the answer, i am asking how to do it cuz i already got the answer. i just dunno how to work it out.

The question is 'In 2006, the digits in Perry's age were the same as the digits in Laura's age, but in reverse order.

In 2005, Perry was twice Laura's age.

What is the difference between Perry's and Laura's ages?'

It can't be cuz if in 2005, then it would be 11 and 20 and that means perry cant be twice laura's age. and i am asking how to work it out, not the answer

10x + y - 1 = 2 (10y + x - 1)
=> 8x = 19y - 1

=> Y has to be odd
=> 19y - 1 has to be divisible by 8
=> y = 3
=> x = 7

Ok- I dug into my collection and picked one of the 78 Nigerian Business Proposal emails. Just for fun. I could have created a different thread for it, but this one just seems more appropriate...

also note that those "business proposals" are almost always typed entirely in CAPS - I wonder if I typed my resume all in CAPS, will the employer find my letter more interesting and will more likely call me up for the job? lol

anyway, a friend once actually wrote back and reply to the business proposal. It was a hilarious experience. The dude on the other end apparently fell for our fake interest. After some correspondence (convincing, I'd say... my friend sounded like a real I'm-suckered-by-your-offer person in his emails), we eventually got the person to take a photo of himself with an apple on his head and a paper in front of himself, with the words "I'm xxxxxx" (name removed). Only then did we tell him we are also a fraud and he should go F himself, LMAO! ok, it was cruel and mean, but we were young and childish, so :p

I tried and ended up with y = 0 and knew that had to be wrong and gave up...

I spent a couple hours on a website one night that chronicled the anti-'scam'. They got the Nigerian guy to fly to sweden (or somehwere) and they monitored a web cam while and watched from the U.S. as the guy showed up at the meeting place and looked very frustrated for hours! Sweeeeet!
