Did anybody else notice the winners circle, and the borders? Or maybe I should say lack there of.

I know, I for one screw up the border almost everytime, but personally like to use them. I am wondering if it isn't worth a couple fractions of a point to just not use one ever.

If anybody out there has an idea of what it takes to create a decent acceptable border, please chime in.

Something simple - Black or White only
Something thin - No more than 10 pixels
Something tasteful - No tacky drop shadows
Something to separate - a thin grey/opposite colour to separate the border from the photo

Anything other than that usually looks gross and I'll take off a couple of points. A good border I won't notice when voting.

I hear you, borders tend not to do well, unless they're plain black. I've used a few that I thought really added to the shot, and got slammed for them in comments and scores. I'm not complaining - I'm glad people took the time to tell me that they didn't think the borders worked, but it just seems that they're not much liked overall.

This is strange, as in exhibition and print contests I've seen, everyone mounts their shots, and many, many of the mounts include a border of some kind.

If you find the magically accepted border, let me know! ;-)

I use borders on practically all my entries. Can't remember the last time I had a comment on a border. But mine are relatively minimalist.

I go for a thin black or white border. Helps to seperate the photo from what it is standing on.
