I am entering some photos in the local county fair. There are two main categories - color and black & white, with several sub-classes in each. I have 4 BW shots I got printed at a place I don't normally use and I find that they seem to have a very light greenish tint to them and less contrast as well.
The color shots all seem to be okay, but I'm not happy with the BW. The other two places I've usually used for prints haven't seemed to give me this problem before. Do you think it was my files or the printing that gave the green cast? I don't want to send out for new prints if I'm going to end up with the same issue.
Has anyone else ever had this problem?

If the printer doesn't use all black inks for B&W prints, ie mixes colours to get different shades of gray, then you will get a colour cast. |

//www.mpix.com has black and white printing where you can only get black and white prints. |

Ah...that makes sense. Well, I've reordered the 4 8x10's through my regular place, so hopefully they will get here in time. I don't know if they use just black, but I've never had issue with it before, so I'm hoping they turn out okay. |

Just an update and lesson learned:
My new prints are SO SO much better than the one's I had done at Walmart. I sent the 4 b/w entries into DPCPrints and they are absolutely wonderful (not to mention they were quite a bit cheaper)...unfortunately, though, too late :( I had to enter the so-so prints. I fully expected to get the prints by Wednesday, based on past mailing from them. And I do know the prints went got shipped out fine - it appears the mail just slowed them down.
Lesson Learned: Be more particular about where to get b/w prints made. |
