My husband and I will be in the Colorado Springs area between October 3-9th. The 7th we have a wedding to attend, but I was wondering if anyone in the area wanted to get together on one of those days and go shooting?

I know karmabreeze has already been wrassled into it ;-) Thanks Becky!

So, is anyone else up for it?

could always be fun....maybe we can even pull a few southern Colorado people this time who couldn't make it to the Mt. Evans GTG like vtruan, K-Rob and Sammie off the top of my head....

Just moved here about 2 months ago. Had to work the Mt Evans day. Sunday the 8th is good with me. I'll have my new lens by then ;)

I'd be game. I may have my Canon 5D by then!!!! 7th or 8th would be good for me.

Cool, Sunday works well for me too. But, if there's people who want to do it on another day, I could probably wrangle two photography days out of my husband ;-) So don't be shy if Sunday doesn't work for you, but you want to be involved too!!

We'll be staying in Manitou Springs, but will have a rental car. So I'm kinda thinking "things around that area." We certainly don't mind driving a bit, but being from out of state a two hour drive seems a bit much. Though I hear there's plenty to see and photograph in the area.

I'm particularly interested in hitting Garden of the Gods.

Anyone else wanna suggest some locations?

As I said...I'm still new to the area. But, if you want to check out Denver itself, it's about a 70 mile trip straight up I25, about 1hr 15min, depending on time of day.

Oct 8 - Sunrise - 0603, Sunset - 1731

P.S. If anyone needs sunrise/suset times for the the entire world, check out THIS site. Gives you the times for an entire year (daylight savings included)

Edited for spelling errors.......

Cave of the winds is in the area. There are the cliff dwellings and Manitou Springs Cliff Dwelling Dancers. Its right there close to Manitou Springs.

Seven Falls is really close too!

Of course, Garden of the Gods is free! The three I mentioned are pricey!

Yeah, you know I'm already in ;D

And you locals, DON'T FORGET the Dragon Boat GTG at Sloans Lake on the 29th or 30th - I'll hit you guys up in email to see about arranging day and time.

Seven Falls looks really cool too! If we can get 15 or more together, we can get a group rate of $7.

Fall colors should be still good at lower elevations (below 9,000 ft) and perfect timing to the south of C. Springs. The Royal Gorge (40 m. south) is always a good shoot. Pike's Peak (road to the top) should still be open for driving. I maybe able this time of year, so add me to the list. Van

Yup - Fall color here is always the week of my birthday, so the wedding guests should be quite pleased!

If anyone is in the area or on the way or North.....we can carpool it? I'm in Aurora and have a Trailblazer. I can fit 5 and gear pretty comfortable.

Well, we're about 3 weeks away!!

Any updates on attendees??

I'll try to narrow down an itinerary in the next week or so.

So, I will be leaving on Tuesday for Colorado!! I'll be bringing my laptop, but I don't know for sure yet whether I'll have internet at the hotel.

For that reason, I'm going to pass off picking the meeting place and time to Rebecca, cause she knows the area better.

I'll have internet this weekend, so I'll check here for some updates.

Just got back from the doctor. Strained back muscle. Work will be day to day. But, the night before the GTG I'm gonna pack so much heat (ok, not THAT much), I'll be GTG (good to go) for a month. I'm in Aurora if anyone wants to hitch a ride. Or if you're South (between Aurora and CS), I can do pick-ups also. I was CONSIDERING just getting a room for Saturday night.

Added: Sheraton Hotel is $93 for 1 night. I dunno, we'll see.

There's a tentative Garden of the Gods trip scheduled for friends and family on Saturday afternoon, but I don't know if Sunday would work better for a DPC GTG..? Libby?

Yes, I'd heard people at the wedding doing Garden of the Gods on Saturday. So I think that I'll likely see that on Saturday....but if people for the GTG really want to do it again on Sunday, I'd probably be ok with that. Otherwise I'm interested in doing Seven Falls for sure on Sunday.

I'd also like to get a roll-call for people who will be coming to the GTG! If it's just you and me and MrEd then we can probably be a little more flexible with our planning.....but there were some other people who had chimed in here earlier.

Be careful with your back! We'll try to go at your pace so as not to aggravate the the injury. Might be worth getting some of the ThermaCare heat pack things that wrap around your waist. They've worked pretty well for me in the past.

Ok, sorry to flood this thread....but I'm leaving tomorrow morning!!!!! HURRAY! I've waited for this vacation for FAR too long.

So I'm hoping that karmabreeze and MrEd will pick up my slack and choose a meeting place and time that will work for everyone :-)

Can't wait to see you all on Sunday!

Libby, I wouldn't worry about duplicating the GotG outing. Make Saturday just for hanging out, and Sunday for photos. Trust me, the park is sufficiently beautiful to do just that.

Best place to meet is the main parking lot. Time suggestions?

Well, my vote is for decently early, but not TOO early. I will, afterall, be recovering from wedding festivities :-) I don't think I'd want to do any earlier than 8am...with 9am as a little better.

Main parking lot of GotG?
