I have a Nikon D50 which I will have with me in a pelican case, but I'd just like to have a a hardy-style compact camera to keep around while I sail for the next six months.
I looked at the Olympus stylus 710 and 720, but I've already invested in a 1gb ultra ii and a 2gb extreme iii sd card. I think the Pentax W10 is the best suited for my purposes especially in my price range, but does anyone know of a higher quality point and shoot that can take a little ocean spray, dust and the like. I'm not really planning on diving with it, so if anyone can come up with anything they think is better I'd love to hear about it.

| The Pentax would have been my suggestion for this type thing. The quality is probably OK enough, and I predict people will be impressed with your underwater pictures and won't notice much else. |

| You could always buy an underwater housing for a non-waterproof camera. |

| i have an olympus stylus 810 and i reeeeeally love it. i know it takes xd cards, buy you can find great deals on them online. highly recommend it (but i do like being the only person here with one). ;) |

| I'd reccomend the Pentax. I'm in the Chesapeak Bay region, and this is my usual camera reccomendation for folks going out on the Bay. Nice shots, little lacking in zoom, but they deal with sailing just fine. |
