Ok then why did you ask?

Oh yeah and I said a "TON" not hours.

i asked because i don't want to do a lot of dodging and burning. i want to do it the simple way. i'm odd like that. i like to save time.

i guess our use of the word ton varies. you say tomato i say tomato. [doesn't quite come across the same way in text does it? :) ]

It was a lot of D&B work. But there are more filters that you can shake a stick at on there.

Possibly some stuff you could get from atncentral.com. Who knows. Email the dude and ask, couldn't hurt.

Wow! I scrolled down on his page until I saw the fireworks shot. He was standing a few hundred yards away from me when he took that shot. The bridge he mentions standing on is in front of me and to the right out of the frame. His vantage point is probably 70 or 80 feet below mine as well.

I finished in 7th for that challenge. I did almost nothing for post processing. I am going to have learn Photoshop. Small world.

Question, If it is HDR, would that be a legal image edit; would an HDR submission on challenge be legal?

Only if it was built from a double/triple/whwatever processed image from one RAW file.

Combining 4 completely different sutter clicks or the same scene is a big no-no.

Yes. I really liked your picture. His picture looks like he had the shutter open for a lot longer then your 14 secs. This would lighten up the overall picture....

But it also looks like some test photos I've seen folks do where they crank up the Neat Image parameters...

But it would be interesting to hear from the photographer what process he uses.

Check out the following link where he has a picture and some links to an HDR tutorial....

Check out the following... seems like a good tutorial for HDR (considering I hadn't heard of it before now ;-) ):

Okay... since my other thread was quickly locked, is doing HDR using a single RAW file photograph legal in advanced rules challenges?

To me it just looks like he used USM on a way high radius.

but, can you alter the image in your RAW converter (bring 3 versions of the same file into ps) or does it all have to be done with layers from one version?

You can bring 3 versions into PS from the same RAW file and merge them in PS or you can work on just one version. As long as only one RAW file is used, do with it what you wish :)

I don't think so. It looks like his specialty is to do the HDR stuff. All of his pictures have the same look and if you follow the link I found it will bring you to a tutorial for one of his pictures.

I downloaded the Photomatix software and created the following:

from:

The saturation level was set too high and I needed to do some sharpening but it gives the general idea. Playing around with other pictures produced some interesting results.

Another Photomatrix test:

Interesting tool. Need to play around with it more to try to get a more subtle touch.
