Hi all,
I have a picture of the moon from a few days ago. It's not the best, but I like it.(I will crop it eventually) It's a handheld shot @ 48x. (I did get a tri-pod last night. yeah!) My only problem is the red haze around the moon. I have a Canon S2IS and I used the night time setting. Is there something I should adjust to minimize that in the future? Since I don't have a great editing program (I have adc, or whatever it's called)I try to get a good in the camera. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That looks like chromatic aberration to me. This "purple fringing" happes on edges where the contrast is too high, as you can see here. Check this out //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_aberration

perhaps reduce the red channel to 0 in PS, or convert to b/w?

When I shoot the moon I shoot at 1/125 and let the camera set the aperature. I also use a tripod and adjust the white balance myself. I have never had this problem though. It very well may be chromatic aberration like Chiqui says. What were the camera settings? |

Definitely chromatic aberration. Easily fixed, in this case, with a hue/saturation layer and totally desaturating red and then darkening it totally as well. A little USM too, just because...

Thanks everyone for the info! Robert, your edit looks super! I haven't spent much time on my computer recently. Hopefully this week or next I can try to tweak the original. I haven't had the time to post what the setting were yet. Probably sometime this week...
I edited the moon picture even though I should be doing more important things...this is more fun:)

I was thinking about doing a lap around the moon with the Spounge tool, but Bear's technique is faster and easier.

Hi Allison.
Here's my shot at this big rock:
Check out my settings. I was a bit surprised with the result of a fast shutter speed. I guess it travels fast.
Post processing was minimal, just a bit of crop, and levels adjustment. I use Photoshop Elements 3.0 |
