I just got an email from Avanti Press wanting to use my Puppy Love photo on a greeting card!! They found it here on dpchallenge.
They have offered to put me in touch with an art buyer regarding useage and licensing fees. What should I charge? Anyone deal with them before?
I'm so excited!!

Congrats! I have an old copy of Photographer's Market and it says they pay a frange from $150 to $750. Since they contacted you, I'd say ask for the the top range!

Congratulations! I agree with TheStick - maybe shoot for $500. |

whatever you do....make sure you get some money!!! :)
I just saw yesterday in the Mailbox Etc. Store (that is the old name) on a greeting card with this photo on it.
Not to mention I've seen it on other websites....I PM'ed the guy that took it and he had it for sell on a stock agency....I don't know how much he made but I see that particular photo all over the place.

I have not listed this on a stock site. Sounds like selling it myself might net me better cash.
Hmmm - I dont think I'll tell them this is daddy and daughter in the shot. They may not be a fan of doggie incest. lol

When you get the $$$ you should buy a new lens!
...keep in mind I don't want anything real fancy, a Canon 10-22 would be fine. ;-P |

How many copies of the card are going to be printed? I'm no expert but I would ask for something around $1000. |

Better ask for double the money then. I'd hate for you to only be able to afford one for me. :) |

Dude, Congrats Linda!!!
You might ask Alanfreed, he just sold that PNC park picture, might be some similarities there.
I think it has to do with use. If they were using it in magazine adverts, you'd get more per image than say, a greeting card.
I saw someone post a while back about a stock site that you could go to, input some different options and any given picture, and it would show you the full per-print price, wish I could remember who it was.

Here it is

Guess it depends on how many cards they make. That looks kinda cheap to me though.
This Avanti right?

The buyer just emailed me - they are offering me $850.00 !!! That's for a 5 yr worldwide exclusive usage.
They said it would be passed ont o the people who write card verses, and that it takes about a month for the final approval of the card. The buyer and the marketer both love the pic and think it should have no problems getting it done in that time frame.

Just for reference...
I always knew that one was destined for commercial exploitation. :) Way to go Linda!

If you think they saw it here on DPC, then they could read the forums as well... |

look into the sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6. about 1/2 the price of the canon.

First off... congrats! I'm sure you're really excited about this, as you should be!
I have found this to be an interesting resource recently... although it doesn't have greeting cards as a criteria, you might at least get a feel for what to charge by looking at this:
Stock Price Calculator
Edited now that I read the whole thread...! :)
