NoellaSue:
It can be done. I was able to add a comment to my last entry details this way...
If you do not have the critique request checked yet and don't have any details entered, then view your image and check the critique request box; DPC will then request that you fill in your details. Once you fill in and submit your details, you can uncheck the critique box if you don't want a critique.

I've gotten a couple of comments on over-exposure, etc. When I submitted the picture, it looked great on my monitor. However lightning hit something in the computer last night and I am now at the local library. Looking at the image from the library's monitor, it looks very different than it did at home. I now wonder if this has been the cause of low scores in the past that I failed to understand. |

wow. This is harsh. I was at 6.2 at 10 AM and I now have a 5.5. Didn't realize the light of day made such a difference. ;) |

My score is in the tank but I'm not surprised. I should have used a different DOF and also broke a few other "Good DCP Pic" rules. I'm kind of surprised that I have such a low score and Zero comments. Looks like a few others don't have many yet either though. I doubt I'll reach 100% but hears to pushing for it!
Stats: You have rated 65 of 380 images (17%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 56 images (15%) in this challenge.

I think a lot of voters will not recognize any perspective that is not vanishing point perspective. In fact, I'm having trouble thinking of any other kind of perspective you can catch in a camera. |
If that is the case then I am going to get a personal low score on this one.
Really? You can't think of ANY other kind of perspective that's not vanishing point? High to low, big to small, low to high, kid's perspective, bird's eye view, worm's eye view . . . . . aren't these different kinds of perspective? I get the vanisihing point thing, and I'm usually a stickler for details, but geez, JUST vanishing point??
Oh well, my "10" shot is doing OK and I am off to the beach on a 2 day business trip.

Sorry in advance for sounding stupid but whats a vanishing point? I dont know wether my photo has one or not as I have zero idea what that is. I just went for an interesting angle/distortion due to angle and lens used. maybe i was way off base about what perspective meant. |

Think railroad tracks. The vanishing point is the virtual point where converging lines intersect. When parallel lines converge on the horizon it gives the impression of 3 dimensions to the 2 dimensional picture. Having an obvious vanishing point is the easiest way to convey Perspective in a photograph.

Thank You for explaining. That maybe have a little to do with my 4.5 score then. its embarrassing. but a little less so if it was due to my own stupidity and not just poor photo quality.

Vanishing point: think of two parallel lines that appear wide in the foreground but appear to converge the further from the camera they get. I don't think you were off in your interpretation. If vanishing points were the point of the challenge, it would have been called "Vanishing Point", not "Perspective". There are many forms of perspective, though some are more subtle. Since I figure that every photo is shot with some kind of perspective (shallow, deep, straight, angled, whatever) I'm probably going to just vote on the dramatic impact that perspective has on the image and not worry about nitpicking on vanishing points.

All those perspectives have vanishing points (except big to small, I don't know what that is). You don't necessarily see the vanishing point, it may not even be within the frame of the picture, but it is still there. If you mean that your vanishing point is not visible, then that's a horse of a different color. I'll give you a good score, but lots of other DPCers probably won't.
edited to say: I realize my perspective is skewed (so to speak) because I come from a drawing background. When you're drawing a scene, you generally have to find the vanishing point regardless of whether or not it features in your picture.

's'ok, I'm wishing I would have entered my other shot instead, but I am a sucker for abstract and the light and shadow were just exquisite... but no one really likes it. Bah...

I like my shot. Very thought provoking (bad for voters), interesting (bfv), out of the ordinary (bfv) ... too many 'bad-for-voters'. Next challenge I'm hitting voters in the face with a big glop of smashed potatoes. Abstract potatoes, but potatoes none-the-less.

My shot has been mistaken for a great pile of poo and is being scored accordingly. I am expecting any moment to get a letter from the Vaunted Photographers Society asking me to stop posing as a photographer and admit I am in reality in kindergarten and only know how to finger paint.

Everytime I finish a challenge with a 6+, I follow it up with a nice juicy 5. I suck.

Yeah, I have to do that sometimes too. Sometimes I follow it up with a lot of fives. Now, after my ribbon, I have a juicy five too. I hope I wont make more fives after this one. |

Feel free to request comments after the challenge. I'll be the first volunteer - just PM me when it's over so I don't forget. |
