I don't want this post to sound like I'm pushing or promoting something, because I'm not. I don't have anything to gain from posting this, just wanted to have somebody to brag to, and you're the only captive audience I have. I got into doing free sites on the internet for prizes. It's the kind where you complete so many trial offers of stuff like AOL or Blockbuster and then they send you a prize you were going after. I was skeptical of the whole thing, until a friend of mine got a bowflex. Then I went all out and went for a plasma tv, which was quite a few offers. It took me three months to jump through all the hoops. I'm a member of an online community of people who do nothing but these free sites in their spare time, and they know all the tricks. Anyway, I just got my first prize in, which was a Dell 42" plasma hdtv. I debated on selling it, but after trying it out I had to keep it. I spent less than $50 completing the whole site, but it took a lot of patience. I'm working on doing several more sites, so wish me luck!

Anybody else ever got anything from a freebie website?

You say you went "all out" for 3 months, how many hours did you spend on this?

I didn't really spend a lot of man-hours. It was just a LOT of waiting. It took me a week to do all the offers and get them approved. Then a 45 day wait period. Then I signed W9 tax forms and sent in conformation certificates. Then another 45 day wait. Then they finally shipped a few weeks later.

I always lose patience after the first site or two. Though I did get some Dove shampoo samples and a coupon for Crest Whitestrips one time.

After getting my first prize, it got me motivated to finish some more sites. I'm doing 4 at a time right now with some other people from the freebie forum. One for a sony vaio desktop, one for a 30gig ipod video, another 4gig ipod nano, and a xbox360. One of the "big 3" prize companies that people get a lot of stuff from actually has a 20D that you can get if you do enough offers.

I get alot of those spam e-mails saying I won this and won that. I just trash them. I guess like you say if jump through all the hoops you will finely win but there is danger of getting more then you bargin for in the form of spyware and even virus. The only way I would do something like this is if I had a computer just for that reason and didn't care what what happens to it. Happy to hear it all worked good for you though. Congrats.

Those people who send you emails saying you won different things are rip-offs. The sites I'm talking about are a select few. They are all based on the same principle. You sign up for big companies trial-offers. The prize company gets paid every time someone signs up for a trial offer. They make money because they only have to give out about 1 prize for every 100 people that sign up because most people give up or don't know the tricks or how to jump through the hoops. Kinda sneaky, huh?

Even out of about 100 sites that are offer-based, you'll only get 5 or so that are legit. Lots of them are shady. There are maybe 3 sites I trust, and only because on the freebie forums people are consistantly posting prizes they get in the "brag section" on a daily or weekly basis from the big ones.

Care to share any links to the "legit" ones and any FAQ sites you know of?

I got a couple of PM's asking for referral links or more info. I'll just answer those questions here and point them back to this thread in case anyone else wants to know. First of all, there's two ways to go about it. One is through referrals, and the other is through "do it yourself" sites. For referral sites, you give a link to someone and they sign up under you and complete 1 offer and once you get so many referrals you get the gift. I do have referral links for sites I'm signed up under, but I'm not gonna post any simply because it wouldn't be beneficial for you to start with referral sites. When you first start, do as much DIY sites as you can until you run out of offers you can do, then switch over to referral type sites. I actually wrote an ebook that I sell on ebay on "Do It Yourself" type sites and how to start one, jump through all their tricks and hoops, and actually get something. If any forum member wants one, shoot me a PM and I'll email it to you for free.

Yeah, definitely. Congrats on the Plasma, but I just can't afford to put my computer into those kinds of situations.

I can't email the ebook until I get home from work, so if any of you want to do any reading on the forum I'm a member of, here's a link to the "do it yourself" section of the forum. There's a sticky at the top called the brag bag where people post prizes they got. You'll see several people in the past week got a plasma from a company called "yourchoicerewards.com". That's where I got mine from. They are a small division of one of the big three sites, and the site I got the plasma from no longer exists. They shut down shortly after about 10 of us got a plasma from them. Here's a link to the forums:

Note: If you get tired of looking at the DIY section, you can go back to the main forum section and they have a place for newbies to read up.

I can't say I blame you. I've done about 20 or more offers so far, and I've had to install stuff like AOL, People PC, Earthlink, Stamps.com software, blah blah etc etc. It can clog a computer up in a hurry.
