I took a few shots at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Colorado Springs, CO for the monument challenge. I intend to go back and take a few shots once a month or so. The dynamics of the memorial change, depending on who is visiting, who has left flowers, taped up photos of lost loved ones, etc. Today there was a fireman giving a tour to a group of high school kids...
Here are a couple of shots from the 9-11 wall...
Comments are always appreciated and thanks for viewing.

Very nice pictures. That second shot is awesome...I can't see the camera! How did you do that?

These photos touched my heart. My community is still dealing with the loss of 8 firefighters a couple weeks ago. I especially like the second one and it really would be ever changing. Thanks for posting.

Hi Sonja,
I was wondering if anyone would notice the lack of a reflection! I took several shots that included my reflection and I did not like that. I then shot at an angle to the wall, which resulted in this original:

I then used Photoshop 7 to straighten the image using the EDIT>TRANSFORMATION>SKEW function. I placed horizontal and vertical guide lines on the screen next to the edge of the engraved words and skewed the image until they were parallel. I had to pull on each of the corners in both directions to get it good and square. I then converted to BW using the channel mixer adjustment layer, and cloned out the bug on the lettering at the top. I used the dodge tool on highlights to brighten the man's shirt and the woman's jacket she was holding. It was pretty simple to do... try it sometime!

I'm sorry to hear about the loss in your community. Their names will be engraved on this wall eventually. (Names are grouped by year. I don't know if they do the names for the whole year at one time??). In any case, if you want to have photos of this monument, including photos of the names from your community once they are in place, I would be happy to do so. Feel free to pass this information along to the families if you would like...

Been to the memorial several times prior to 9-11, I'm sure it is really touching now. As an x-volunteer firefighter the dangers are constant and all firefighters are true heros of the world. Thanks for the great photos. Van
