As in one to take with me when I run. This morning I saw what I think was a bobcat on the trail ahead of me. It definately had a very feline gate, and was about the size of a golden retriever (which is what I thought it was from far away). I'm pretty sure it wasn't a coyote... I see those frequently, buti t had a short stumpy tail. I figure if I'm going to get eaten alive in the woods, I should at least have a camera with me to document it. |

Short stumpy tail, it could have been a lynx. Did the ears have tufts of fur coming off the ears?
As far as a camera goes you probably want one with decent optical zoom (10x or better). |

I bought a Canon S50 offline, refurbished, to carry around with me when I didn't want to deal with the 300D. I'd suggest something like that. I liked it because if used CF cards and still had manual controls (M, Tv, Av, etc). And because it was a few years old, it was decently priced.
The new S70 and S80 are supposed to be pretty sweet, too. It's always good to have a little camera on you, that way you never miss a trick!

Be careful running in big cat territory!
I heard of a recent attack on the news and they say running triggers the attack instinct. |

My backup is an S80. It's a wonderful camera, but pricey. Another side effect is the lack of CF. The S70, however, uses CF, and while somewhat slower than the S80, is a fine camera and just as durable (if not more so). They are well priced refurbished, as are the A series if you are willing to buy a small SD card.
I'm disappointed with your devotion! I take my D200 into the shower, when I sleep, etc... as not to miss the perfect shot. You never know when those soap bubbles might spell a perfect ten for the next DP Challenge! :-P
