Is the lens cap the normal Canon design or does it have pinch points in the middle (like Tamron, Nikon, Tokina e.t.c.)?

I am either going to order the 10-22 or the Tokina 12-24 before tomorrow tonight and since I still cannot deceide :-/, I wanted to get the rest of the order sorted. I am ordering some Tamron caps to replace the terrible Canon ones and just wanted to know if I needed to add one for the 10-22 as well :-)

What we need is a website that reviews lens caps. ;-)

What's the price diff between the Canon and the Tokina? I am thinking my next lens will be the Canon 10-22.

You can tell I am stuffing around cause I cannot deceide :-))

$225 based on B&H, A US version and adding the hood..... oh and add $9 for the modified lens cap :-)

Given that the 10-22 uses a 77mm front filter, it's a sure bet that it uses the crappy Canon cap design. The only lenses that don't AFAIK are the super telephotos and the 15mm fish.

Edit: I have Tammy caps on all my most-used Canon glass :-)

I am really really tempted to get a Nikon cap just for no reason, but they are a fair bit dearer then Tamron :-) I keep swapping the Tammy 28-75 with the 70-200f4 because Canon is physically impossible to get on/off the 70-200 with the hood attached.

It has the usual Canon cap, with pinch points on the side edges.

Just to be a real nut, you can get a small Nikon lens cap, like a 52mm and get a screw on step-DOWN thread adaptor and run around with that on the front of your camera...

Good info on the lens caps though... My lens cap for my Canon 80-200 keeps falling off and it drives me BANANAS... Will look into the Tamron lens cap design...

Interesting, I've never had that problem... However the lenscap that came with my drainpipe says Ultrasonic on it... which the lens is not... LOL

Could be but I don't have any problems with this lenscap. And as an add on the lens hood is my fave of any i own. I love just putting the camera lens facing down, and not having to worry about it falling over. Plus so easy to take on and off... reversable... ah just so great XD

re: "Is the lens cap the normal Canon design........"

The cap that came w/ my lens has pinch style attachment, however it will not work with Hoya Ultra (slim) filter. However, that particlular filter comes with it's own cap, which is squish on.

Right, the ultra-thin filters don't have any threads in front of them, nothing for the conventional cap to grip on to.

I only use the cap on my telephoto when it's going in the bag. The hood keeps stuff from hitting it, and it is nice to be able to set it down and have the camera balance on it. It doesn't work with the 28-75's hood because it's a petal shape (and small)
