How much difference does the speed of the card affect the speed of taking pictures? For instance, the Lexar website boast it will increase the processing time on your camera, allowing you not to wait as long and be able to take more shots? Is this true? Some people are telling me its all based on the camera itself and not the speed of the card. I neen to know if buying a Lexar 40x will boost the speed of my camera? |

Short answer: Prolly not.
Long answer: Yes, the buffer will clear faster IF the camera can take advantage of the faster card, however, most consumer digicams cannot. If you use a fast, e.g. USB 2.0, card reader, the faster card will significantly speed up transfers to your computer though, and this in itself can be a blessing.

when i was buying my camera about a month ago, the sales told me that the higher speed memory cards work exactly the same as regular cards unless your camera was designed to handle them and basically that meant SLRS (I belived him as this made me spend less money on a slower card). I'd check into if your camera supports the speeds that you would be spending the extra money for. |

The D100 isn't really a fast action camera in TIFF/RAW mode, but even such, it makes a slight difference in the amount of time per picture, but the buffer limitations on the camera affect the overall advantage that the Lexar media offers. Also I found that in large, high-quality JPEG mode, it makes quite a bit of difference when taking alot of photos one after another. ( compared to the 1GB micro drive) |
