just tried some thing similar with capture 4.0 vs NX

some things feel faster some not .. you can do some funky thing with NX

So, I guess one of the things I'm wondering is, if one were to use one of these modified NEF files as original proof, would it show? I'm guessing it would, at this point, but I'm not sure.

if you used a modified one - yes - it would show
a editied version then reverted has the same internal attubutes as Capture 4.
shooting dates are held constant(*3) / last edited/modified has Capture NX in the headder as well as the last edit date

running strings on an edited file you can see the script blurbs of the brush/fill/stroke & other history in plain ascii .. quite neat ,,

yes - it appears that you still can revert to original (via the flag at the bottom of the edit list) - revert in file list only pulls you back to last saved edit ..
(mis-labled IMO)

it removes all scripting (stoke & etc) information as well . .
hmm...

is that what you are asking ?

Flag at the bottom of the edit list? I'm missing that one. The modified saved NEF changes back to original in any other RAW editing software, but I can't change it back to original in NX.

Also, the dates are modified when saving a NEF through NX. I thought dates never changed in RAW files?

OK, just figured out how to undo changes.

But dates are (seem to be) permanently changed.

when i look at the dates 've been using a text tool
strings which looks at the internal dates- the last touched date changes (as it had in Capture) but not the shot dates ..

i am unsure of which tool you are using to examine the file - the file date doesn't seem to change in NX (at least with the files i've been playing with /.
