BTW - It is awesome!!!
So far it looks like I will not need CS for much. You can crop, straighten, resize, and manage color in Capture now.

| it looks like the camera control utility is a separate product now, so don't forget to download Camera Control Pro too - if you're interested. |

I am amazed by this software. I don't know how to use most of it, but the Control Points are amazing. After my trial expires, I think I will buy it.

Unless you already own Capture 4 then it will be an $70-80 upgrade. |

Ah, OK, that's more like it.
I downloaded and am trying it right now. It's slow on my computer for now. We'll see :) |

| Dang, this thread is scary! Everyone who has answered this so far owns Nikon cameras. Well I guess we need to keep a couple slimmy rocks the Nikon owners can crawl under and hide from the king of all camera ... Can.. ;) |

| Is there a way to show both the small preview and a larger version of the image (as in RS)? Going by just the small previews and then having to load each image is going to slow down stuff even further. |

i haven't used NX yet, but my biggest beef with other versions of capture was how long it took to open each and every file. there are definitely aspects of it that i miss, but it ended up just not being feasible for a real-life workflow.
even ACDSee opens NEF files more quickly. |

Yes, this was my problem with Capture 4. Unless they sped it up a bit I'll stick with RSP which is very fast. I will try NX however to see, just as soon as my desktop is done being fixed (motherboard went out).

Yes, that's exactly it. So I ended up using Capture sometimes, because of the controls, but not for sorting work. |

OK, silly question.
I just edited an image in Capture NX, sort of scribbled all over it with a fat orange brush (since you can do selective stuff), and saved it. I then closed NX and took a break.
Then I went to RS, and it shows with the orange scribbles in the little preview images, but, the open file first shows with scribbles and then changes to the original without scribbles.
Opened in NX again, and it shows only with scribbles.
What's going on?

i have tried capture in the past and found it horrible to work with... as a result, i use rse in most cases...
my first impression of NX is that it's much, much faster... also, a lot easier to work with, though i think some of the choices they made in the user interface were rather... odd...
i love the way control points work, though... a lot. i'm just not sure i like it enough to drop the coin for it... might have to once adobe completely kills rse in the future (come on... you know it'll happen...)
i just wish my current perspective score reflected how well nx worked... but... start w/ a bad image, no amount of processing in the world will make it great...
sigh...

Slower than molasses unless you condsider that it would take about an hour's worth of selective editing and masking in PSCS2 to do some of the selective editing that this program does in minutes. It is really really slow though. I would never use it for batch editing.

it must write the extra info into an extra file but modifies the preview
just tried some thing similar with capture 4.0 vs NX
some things feel faster some not .. you can do some funky thing with NX
and i'm sure alot won't be legal in "Basic" .. .
hmmm.....

Is it just me or are there windows within the frame that are sideways (or the wording is sideways?)and does the toolbar view in full, on the top of your screen??? Mine seems to be significantly cut off and won't fit to screen? |
