Creativity, followed by determination.

I think your strength is your versatility. You don't seem "stuck" in one type of photo taking or processing. You have excellent shots of all types. |

I have spent a great deal of time experimenting in low light conditions so It is definately where I have the most experience playing with shutter speed ISO flash direction etc etc etc.....

Never thought of this either. I think is feeling. I seldom conceptualiz my pictures. My dad used to work in wood (sculpture). He would go and go and finally stop saying "This is". Never failed him. I wish I was like him.

Disclaimerâ€Â¦the stuff I do that isn’t for challenges may not be AWESOMEâ€Â¦but it usually is better than things I submit here. If you question this go here to see my favorite shots that I have done...also I need to shoot more people...and less things. |
I'm with Clint. I can see something and say "that's a perfect picture". And I can usually take it. Though sometimes it may have some technical issues. As for using my imagination to come up with challenge entries, I suck (as my scores show!). |

I don't have any strengths or weaknesses. I'm just average.

Strengths: Water, paying attention to the techincals, coaxing the sharpest image possible out of the original (be it pre or post work).
Weakness: by far, candids. |

Strengths: Post processing, pre-visualization, attention to technicals, color!
Weaknesses: SPs and a lot more :D |

Before I found this site, I THOUGHT my strength was photography, but now I feel like a big nuthin'...I am taking a big break from the challenges. The scores just make me feel worse. I have deleted my portfolio. I feel like a nobody today.

4 finishes above 6.0 in 18 attempts? I think you are selling yourself a bit short...
I know how you feel though. We all have our down periods. My goal is always a Top 10 finish and I had gone 9 challenges without (ok, no snide remarks, we all have our own goals!). I was starting to get a bit down on it, but then two ribbons in a row. I think I was just doing some experimenting in those 9 challenges. Grunge should be added to a weakness of mine.
Just keep it up. Lots of people are jealous of just one 6.0. |

I said something pretty much the same a couple days ago, while watching all 4 of my scores fall under 5, and I'm sure it's not the last time I'll feel that way. Instead I (and others) reminded myself why I'm here. In a year from now, which will be more valuable to you; a virtual ribbon or the knowledge, skills, and experience you've garnered here?
And if you're a nobody, you're one among some very talented and creative company! Take a break if you need, to recharge and relax, but don't give up :) |

I know how that feels too. Ive entered the challenges with high hopes only to find out that my photo is pretty bleek compared to alot of the others. Sort of takes the personal satisfaction away from a photo that I may have held dear and near had I not entered it in a challenge. Once my picture dies in a challenge it is really hard to wipe off the suckiness.

I think my whole problem is that I am just frustrated.
And in answer to DrAchoo's remarks about my score of six....I think I got that because I gave them a catchy name and there were no threads telling people "how" to vote.
When the ''flowers'' challenge was announced, you would have thought that the crowds had lighted torches and were storming the castle!!
And the ''straight out of the camera'' challenge was one of my best shots, but isn't doing very well, because of all the talk in the forums on what was ''legal'' to vote on. (Landscape as opposed to portrait) Before I deleted my portfolio, MOST of photos were portrait...(AND my camera auto-rotates as do many cameras nowadays)
I used to click on this site at LEAST 10 times a day, and now the whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth for even entering another shot OR taking another photo for that matter. Since deletling my portfolio, all I have is two pretty good photos and a bunch of sucky ones left from old challenges....
I even have removed my camera type because in here, if you don't have a Canon or Nikon, you're judged differently. You may say it's different, but it IS a form a prejudice.
I haven't said anything before now, but felt that I needed to say all this.

@ Bosborne: sometimes it's just the matter of letting go and seeing things in a relative way. I learned that today :)

Bosborne...we all go through this at times. There is no quick fix...everyone is different. I enter photos into challenges that I like and they dive in score...I enter ones that I am not real keen on and they win...go figure. Just take a break and look around other portfolios...check out site favourites etc...you will eventually get back the urge to photograph again. You have some beautiful images in your collection...and you are a beautiful individual. Never let go of that.

I'm good with natural light, I'm technically strong, I have a feel for landscapes, I can do killer sunsets & sunrises; THAT's what I'm good at...

Thanks Judy.
Maybe one of these days I'll find a niche.

My strength is picking backgrounds that look awesome when put out of focus. The foreground subject is another story. |
