I got an adapter for my camera today which will allow me to actually use lenses with it.
I have a powershot s30, which didn't allow for add on lenses.
Has anyone used this sort of thing before? It fits on the camera and lets me put 37mm lenses on it. It also doesn't cover the battery/cf card spot, and has a thread on it for a tripod (which the adapter screwed into the one on the camera).
The only problem I can see so far is that when the camera isn't zoomed at all I can see a little bit of the lens in the viewfinder. (It doesn't show any of the adapter when the lens isn't on).

Hi, I have used the adapter for almost a year now (I got mine from CKC Power, which does allow you to change the battery and CF card when attached to the camera). I have found it to be very useful.
I currently have a 2x Tiffen Teleconverter, +7/+10 closeup filters, UV, CP and ND+2 filters. My adapter also shows up in the viewfinder window, but as the view finder gives only ~80% frame coverage without any lenses attached, I tend to use the LCD exclusively, which will show you what the camera sees regardless of what you have attached to the adapter. (I'd recommend buying a spare battery if you haven't already). You might have a hard time finding 37 mm accessories, but a step-up ring allows for larger, more common threaded accessories.

I have one as well with a teleconverter and close up filters.
If anyone is interested, please email me. Almost not used (bought the 10D).

It's really great to be able to have an average joe digital camera and be able to put lenses on it. I have an adapter for my A70, and I'm quite pleased with what I can do with it now. Drawback is that, especially for macro shots (I got the closeup set), if you use the flash, the adapter blocks most of it so you have a big shadow across. Other than that, the closeup set is fun, the UV filter is fun, and the cross screen is fun. :) |

I did wonder with that about the flash. I actually hardly ever use it so it won't be that big of a deal.
I did notice that the lens I put on covers the corner of the viewfinder. But again, I usually use the lcd screen. I like having the ability to put other lens on so far too, even though I've only got one lens.

I got a two for three deal, so I couldn't resist getting more for "less." As for the flash, no, I don't use it much, either. The first night I had them, I was experimenting on small objects in my dim room. I don't think I've used it (or try to) with the flash since. Unfortunate part about them; now I want about four or five other filters and a couple more lenses. :p |
