DOes anyone know why my version of Photoshop (CS2) won't recognise the CR2 files from a Canon 5D. I had no problem before with the files from my 300D (CRW). Is there a plug-in or anything? Thanks for any help. I am clueless. |

Go to Adobe's web site and download the latest Adobe Camera Raw release.

There is a Adobe Camera Raw update on Adobe's web site. It should fix your problems. There should be a link to it somewhere around here in the forums.

Double check that you removed the previous plug-in and installed the new one to the correct directory. |

Are you using CS2 or Elements 3.0 or greater? It won't work in earlier versions. |

CS won't work with Camera RAW 3.4, one way around this probloem is to convert your CR2 files to Adobe DNG format then they'll open in CS. |

You should be able to use DPP if it comes with the 5d (?) or Raw Shooter Essentials to convert your RAW files. |

Oh one more thing - if I convert the files to adobe DN whatever u said - do I still get to edit them in the raw mode? I do have the files as Jpegs - so I guess might as well edit in CS as jpegs if not the case ?? |

The DNG converter creates files that are handled as RAW files by CS. The only problem I notice is that you end up with two files. One .CR2 and one .DNG. Which one if any to throw away? |

As I understand it there is another option to embed the CR2 file in the DNG. One could conceivably then delete the CR2 and just have a huge DNG. |

It has nothing to do with the brand of camera. It has to do with the model of camera, when it was released and when the RAW updates are provided. |

Looking for some help!!
I just got my wed pics from my photographer - they gave us the RAW files (CR2) I have Adobe CS1 - I was not able to open them so I d/l'd the Camera Raw 2.4 update and installed it and I am still getting error:
"Could not complete your request b/c this version of PS does not supply the services required by this plug-in module."
Does this mean I need CS2??
Do I need a different updater??
HELP!!! |

Sounds like the camera your photographer used isn't supported by CS1. You can check out RawShooter Essentials, it's free and may work for you. |

Yes, Adobe abandoned CS1 users, which disheartened me greatly since I bought CS1 a few months before CS2 came out and 6 months later traded my 300D for a 350D, and I could no longer read my raw files in CS1.
As CS2 upgrade is quite pricey, I decided to wait for CS3. Unfortunately, while the CS3 beta download is free for trying, you need CS2 also to get the CS3 beta! They must hate us CS1 users! :(
EDIT: HOWEVER: Note that RAWShooter does a better job than CS in my opinion on RAW files and is easier to use on a days shoot. While RAWShooter is now discontinued, you can also try the Lightroom beta for free which will read those files, and contains some RAWShooter technology (though I don't like the interface and still use RAWShooter)
Also Bibble is pretty feature laden and good workflow for RAW file conversion.

As mk posted, RSE, if it is still available, is a good alternative. Get it while you can, though, because it will be going away. See the note on the link mk provided.
Another alternative is to get the Adobe DNG converter and convert the RAW files to DNG. Your older version of ACR should then recognize them. |

RSE is available for Windows only - I have a MAC. |

So I converted my RAW files (CR2) to DNG and I am still getting the same error:
"Could not complete your request b/c this version of PS does not supply the services required by this plug-in module."
Any other ideas??
