I just got myself a three filter set, and one of them is kind of surprised me the way it works.

It has a separate chamber that can be turned manually after its attached to the lens and if I turn it slowly, I can see the LCD monitors (like the computer flat screens) goes blank totally. If I keep turning it screens come back... Nothing else goes black, just LCD screens...

What is it and where can I use this filter?

Sounds like a polarizer. I keep an old one next to my lcd screen as a tool to get the screen clean. Some how the clone stamp refuses to get the dust off my screen;-)

That's a polarizer, and it's used mostly for landscapes to bring out the blue skies or take reflections off shiny objects or water. It also helps brings out the contrast and saturation in hazy photos.

Must be a polarizer. A very useful filter for landscape (and cityscape) photography, for example it can darken the sky without darkening the clouds. Do a search on the forums for polarizing filter, it gets discussed frequently.
