Is there a way to have a photo uploaded and viewable in my portfolio but not have it show up on the front page of my profile? It seems that whatever was uploaded last goes under "selected photographs from portfolio"

If you don't want the last uploaded images to appear in your profile you can select different ones. Just un-tick the box for showing the latest uploaded images and select others instead. This is in your preferences.
