Just like with many sporting events, when a tournament gets too large, they start to break up the entries into categories of players.

I play table 'tennis'. I have a rating of about 1600. In order to be in the Olympics, I would need a rating of about 2400. Beginners are rated about 500. I will never get to the Olympic level. I can, however, still enjoy table 'tennis' at my level by competing against others of the same level and every now and then move a notch or two.

What if there was a new type of challenge. Rated entries. You can use things like average score on regular challenge, to determine rating. Maybe some cool formula that takes the highs and lows out and gets a number that's closer to reality. Then all the 3-4 photographer can compete against each other, as well as the 5-6 and the 7-8s.

In order to get in the higher group, which should be everyone's goal, then you must attempt to raise your rating.

It's the beginning of an idea with a lot of details that need smoothing, but it might limit the entries to challenges to only the better entries.

There should still be open non-member challenges, followed by member challenges, but then a new type called rated or tiered challenges.

I am new here, and I am still trying to enter everything. I am still learning post-processing, and what people want to see here.

I want to be a professional photographer, but currently am a computer programmer, that writes database driven web applications.
