Do people vote lower for a picture that looks like it may or may not have been done legally or do they give it a score assuming legality then ask for a DQ?

When you get a DQ, are you emailed to send a copy of your original to the site?

The official recommendation (described when you click on the DQ recommendation button) is that you should request a DQ but vote as though it was done legally. That way if the photo is legit it gets it's true score and if the photo is DQ'ed then the vote is removed anyway.

When you get a DQ it depends on why it was DQ'd as to if they give you a chance to respond. I've had 2 DQ's - none of which I was allowed a retort. But they offered an explination and I agreed with them so it's cool. I just learned to not shoot that subject or post edit that way anymore.

I was just wondering...

I have seen a few pics in b&w w/ one colour showing.. Is it possible to do this w/o spot editting?

Anyhow, there maybe some illegal pics, but i guess ppl dont bother to report them cuz not many of them are really outstanding...

Yes, It can be done legally without spot editing. If the color is showing is a unique color it can definitely be done.

Say you have a picture of a red rose and you desaturate the picture of all colors except red then the red will remain. If you had two red roses and you desaturate then both roses will remain.

If you had a red rose and a yellow rose and you desaturate all but the red then the red would remain but the yellow would be grayscale.

Of course in both examples you can select the one rose that you want to have color remain and masked it out and take color away from everything but the one rose.

You may ask for a DQ. The photographer would send copy to council to verify and no harm done. They can verify if the legal way was used when you submit the original picture.

Remember vote as if it was legal then ask for DQ. If the picture is legal the picture will get the score you gave it. If DQ'd then the score will be discarded.

I think this is a good explanation. Any comments or add ons.

Especially, if they're outstanding photos, I want to score them according to merit, not suspicion.
