a little help requested from anyone living in Tempe, Chandler, or Las Vegas, please.
I'm heading south tomorrow, and since the Canadian dollar is up i figured I might do a little camera shopping whilst in the US. Thinking about a D100 or 10D plus a little glass...any suggestions as to where to buy?
Anything I have shipped up here costs me a ton in shipping and duty, so it seems to make sense to get it down there.

thanks in advance,

Pedro

Hi Pedro,

I can't help you with camera specialty shops, but I have done my shopping at Best Buy and Fry's Electronics. I've recently been shopping for a new camera and I found Best Buy to have a competitive price for what I've found on the internet and Ebay. Best Buy had a full range of cameras from low to mid and high. I looked at a Canon, Nikon and Sony while there... There are multiple locations throughout the Phoenix area. If I can answer any other questions, please let me know.

I wouldn't recommend Best Buy or Frys for a D100 or 10D, they probably don't even stock those. Best Buy and Frys are both budget mainstream electronics shops which don't have much in the upper quality range. I would recommend someplace like Photomark (2202 E. McDowell Rd., 602-244-1976), FotoForum (4834 North 7th Street, 602-263-0084), or The Guild (737 West Camelback Rd., 602-264-5808). The Guild stocks a lot of used equipment, so I would try there for the used lenses. All the stores just mentioned are in Phoenix. The one you might try if you don't want to go up to Phoenix is Lewis Camera ( 1126 North Scottsdale Road, Tempe, 480-968-9321 ). Good Luck! Enjoy your stay in the US!

When I was at Best Buy last week they had the 10D and other high end cameras...

Sorry Tina, I never noticed them at the Best Buys I've been to. All I've ever seen when I've been there are film SLRs and point and shoot digital cameras. Plus, I have never noticed much of a stock of lenses. What Best Buy do you shop at? I always go to the one at Arrowhead or Avondale.

No problem! :-) I had to ask about the 10D - they have those high end cameras locked away in a case seperate from the others. I was there looking at the Sony F717 and they pointed out a Nikon as well (I believe it was a 5000 model). They were actually very helpful - offered to print me out a full comparison of all three cameras (10D, F717 and 5000). I can't say anything about their lense selection - I didn't check into those yet.

I shop at the Superstition Springs location.
