this is my first challenge with the update button. While it is good to see the score changing almost vote by vote it owuld be good to also have an indication of where that currently puts me in the ranking.

That would be nice for like 5 minutes and then it would get really depressing. :P

What I would like to see is more stat breakdown after the voting has ended. For example, the average vote from North Americans, Asians, Europeans, etc. I wouldn't do it by country since it might make it too obvious if we only have a few members from that region. The reason why I think this would be interesting is more towards the business of photography and getting to know what different markets prefer and whatnot. Just a thought.

I do like your idea though. I was just goofing around when I first commented. Maybe have it as an option to turn off independently from the score?

I like the idea, but I think an actual position would not serve the spirit of competition well. Seriously, the scores threads would quickly become position threads and the outcome of the challenge would be known before the end.

Knowing the current percentile ranking, perhaps rounded to the nearest 10% (for example, just note the entry is in the top 10%, or 20% or so on).

Might make for some nice surprise endings when the 'real' results are final (troll votes discarded, etc). Could be some real heartbreaks too.

I wouldn't even want to know my (or others') percentile.

Are Troll votes actually removed? I figured it would be too hard to identify Troll voting unless someone voted all 1's other than a single photo for example

There is a script run at turnover that looks for and removes certain patterns of votes (such as all 1's except for one 10). That is just an example, the exact patterns looked for are known only to D&L.

Yes but you wouldn't be able to tell what was a troll vote being removed from those honest votes that just didn't meet the 20% requirement.

I think that for many people, if they saw that they were near the top, it may be tempting to vote down other top photographs in attempts to get a ribbon. Just my two-cents.
