I wonder what's a better deal ( both at the same price of $1500 Cdn)?

the 30d or the 20d + Canon kit (Canon bag, extra battery and battery grip or pack (value of $300)?

would appreciate your advise.

thank you

Extra batter is worth less than $20 on line. Bag you will not like after a while, Battery grip is real nice, I love mine.

BUT why buy an old version if the new is same price. A single battery is easy to replace, keep an extra with you. The added controls if you like to take JPG pics is much better than the 20D.

My choice without much thinking .... 30D

I would go with the 30d. It isn't a huge upgrade, but that 2.5" screen is BEAUTIFUL! The spot metering is a great bonus as well. I also love the new file handling.

I want one, but it isn't enough of an upgrade for me, even though the new features are really tempting. Without a doubt I would choose the 30d if I didn't already have a 20d.

IMO there are only 2 noticable benefits of the 30D over the 20D - The larger LCD and the Spot Meter. Both of these depend on your style as to how critical they are to you. I believe that DPP has the new styles and can be used with 20D RAW files but not sure as I rarely use DPP.

The kit lens is okay but nothing special - although I think it gets a bad wrap for the $40 I paid extra for it :-)

The grip is a love/hate thing for me. I love the concept and it helps a lot holding the camera but the 20D version is just a poor design and is nowhere as good as it could have been. It does add more than you think to the weight, issue for some and not others.

As others have said a non-canon batter I got 2 for $20 from stirlingtek and have had no problems with them. If you prefer the name brand then it's worth more to you.

30D.
Some folks like the battery grip - i prefer lighter/smaller and with the 30D you don't need the extra battery life (one batt will last about 1300 shots)

if you shoot raw not much difference in the two, but if you shoot JPG then the 30D offers picture styles. Nice to have once you figure out what you like (i'm still working on it).

The burst/drive mode options on teh 30D are nice and the 30D can shoot more pics without a rest - i shot a wedding yesterday, i use 2 bodies (20D and 30D with different lenses). ON the bouget and garter tosses i use drive mode - 30D can shoot and shoot. the 20D stops to write the files.

Kit lens...spend the bucks and get a good lens to start with, or you can pik up a used kit lens for $70 most anytime on ebay if you must have one.

30D has a faster buffer. If you shoot sports, events, or anything else where you don't want to wait for the camera to catch up, get the 30D. Spot metering is cool too. And as I discovered yesterday, the programmable picture styles.

Gosh I was in future shop today and played with both of them. I'm in Canada too, and the 20D was $1400 and the 30D was $1700, neither of which came with anything besides the kit lens. Where are you buying yours from if you don't mind me asking?

On the web site of BestBuy.ca the 30d is at $1529.99 (for Canada day special). Just go to any Future shop and tell them to match the price.
Futureshop has a policy that they will match the price and gave you an extra 10% of the difference.
On the web site of future shop you can get the 20d + the kit for $1499.99 if they still have some.
