Hi there! I have the canon wireless remote (this one) and I need to know if there is a way to minimize the span of time between pushing the button and taking the shot. Mainly I want to know this for photographing the fireworks in the next coupla days (if I get out there) and because timing is so important, that delay on the shutter release/self timer/wireless remote deal is going to be a pain. I'd like instant shutter release if I can get it! The camera manual says the self-timer feature IS 10 seconds.

Anyone know how I can minimize that delay time?

Will the cable release (this one) offer me what I need?

Does the cable release have to run on the self-timer mode (which seems to be set at 10 seconds)?

Thanks in advance for the help!

On the other canon remote (RC-1 I think), there's a mode selector that lets you choose between 2 second delay and no delay. It's not instantaneous, but it's pretty quick on the no delay mode.

I'm pretty sure the cable releases work in all the drive modes, because I've heard of people putting it in burst mode and leaving the remote locked.

Looks like you'll have to fire manually for this year's fierworks...the RC-1 remote is what you want to get, like MadMan2k said...

Well, even a 2 second delay is better than 10! I'll take it! ;)

I just really don't want to wait 10 seconds from when I hear the firework/see the firework to my stupid camera goin' click.

AND thank you for the awesomeness of info on the LOCK...in BURST MODE. That is priceless knowledge, rockin!

Just to clarify, the cable release is the one that lets you use burst mode. I wish the wireless did also, but it only works in self-timer mode on the camera (to prevent someone else triggering it when you don't want them to, maybe?)

Or you could push the remote repeatedly, as fast as you can...! It would be cool if you could just keep the remote pressed and have the camera fire away for the duration.

I have a cable release for my 300D and have found that its an instant release when in manual focus. Not sure if you've tried it this way, but if not, then give it a go - you may find that it's faster, even with the remote.

Thanks dahved and odyssey for your ideas! The wireless remote I have doesn't work instantaneously no matter what... it only works when on self-timer. So the cable is going to be purchased and exploited, but probably not by tomorrow's fireworks :(

The wireless remote was an ok purchase, but when I got it I didn't realize the 10 second timer deal. Oy.

Thanks again,
Katy
