well, folks, we did it! Had a wonderful day in Berkeley watching kites, kids, and taking candids. I lose track of how many of us were there, but we sure did take pictures! I've got only 244 to go through.

This jumped out at me, so maybe I'll be the first to post, with this one. But dang it, I was so busy taking the picture I never did see what they were looking at!

Anyhow, from left to right:

macpapas, BrennanOB, jdannels, faidoi, philipdyer, gaurawa

Obviously I'm behind the lens, and GeneralE had wandered off somewhere. Kids and wives were also in evidence. You'll see more of them later. Every one of them was photogenic.

As was the snake Philipdyer saw (almost stepped on?) which we all dilligently photographed and probably now look up to see if it was "dangerous".

After an overcast morning, the clouds lifted somewhat for a fine afternoon.

Unfortunately somewhere along the line, we missed Rikki. Dunno where you were Rikki, but we tried to find ya, honest we did!

Okay, I guess I'm still the only one who finds it necessary to do pictures before dinner, so here are the snakes in the grass. And considering the scope of this site, probably there's a herpetologist on board who can tell us who this critter is...

Head shot
.
.
About a 1/2 of a panoramic view. Best guess could be about 3 1/2 feet long.

Okay, I'm looking forward to more pics soon.

Hey, we just got home 20 minutes ago! Traffic later on was awful -- it took about 40 minutes to get as far as University and San Pablo Avenue ... I haven't even had a chance to copy them yet, much less look at them ...

Hey â it was great seeing everyone again (and meeting a few new friends)!!!

No time to process before leaving for a business trip tomorrow, so I basically just cropped a few and resized for webâ¦

Meet the Crew!

Meet the Kids!

And of course, the reason we were thereâ¦
The Kites

Ray Bethell
This guy is incredible â he flies 3 performance kites at one time (by himself!). Find out more about him here Ray's Website

The Snake
Got up close and personal with this guy. Remember, âthings in the lens are sometimes closer then they appearâ. This was not cropped â taken with 24-70mm.

Finally, The Would Be âAction Shot IIâ Entry
The one that got away. I most likely would have entered this shot in the challenge IF the mystery man in the red hat didnât decide to make a surprise appearance. :-)

Hope to see you all again soon!

Very nice photos, everyone! It was great to see all of you again, and to meet several new friends -- Guarawa, Welland, Joe, Paul, Isaac, and of course Mark's family who kept my daughter entertained all day. :-)

Here are some photos from today:

I had a great time meeting everyone today, I'll post some pics tommorrow after I umm, take a crash course in zen photgraphy and I get something to feed my update obsession. Thanks again Rikki for suggesting the get together, eventhough we know it was a secret plan of yours to keep us all away from the grand prix race for the action shot challenge.

I haven't had much time to edit anything, but I thought these two action shots of Isaac participating in the Rokkaku (Japanese fighting kite) Battle came out pretty good:
These strings were about 80 feet away and 30 feet up:

Am I the only one who got a pretty impressive sunburn yesterday? It looked so overcast and soft that failed to respect how badly Irish skin works with July sun.

It's always interesting to see how differently, or similarly you shoot to some others in a group.
My shot Mark's shot different angle but had to be taken in the same second.

Nice pictures, Brennan! You managed to get a lot of good skies in there. And I'm only about 1/3 Irish, but I'm redder than a drunk lobster today.

Dayum! I guess that explains why Rikki wasn't at the GTG yesterday. I'm really going to miss him around here. This sucks. :-(

thanks Mark, Paul.

Mark, if you remember, you asked me if I got a shot of Paul and I wasn't sure if I did as Bren just walked across, its the shot from that time and it came out pretty good.

I'd say it came out much better then good, "great", "outstanding" - those are the words that come to mind. :-)

Man, this one is awesome!!!!

Gee, everyone is putting up such beautiful shots, I'd better get a few more in here too!

Okay, here goes:
The obligatory sky shot

Abstract
.
Macpapas and son
.
Gaurawa, SFAlice, jdannels, brennanOB, faidoi, philipdyer with daughter, Jessica, and in the front row, GeneralE with Issac. (Photo by Karen, Macpapas wife)

Oh yes, before I forget, that snake pictured in earlier posts was either a California King Snake or a Gopher. I hope it was the first one, 'cause that's a more impressive name!

Definitely not a King Snake -- they have stripes. Almost for sure a Gopher Snake -- especially after it crawled off into a gopher hole ...

Yup, a gopher without question, 3 feet long, and that reticulated tan and brown pattern, plus the rather bold behavior posing for all those shots.
