We've gone a few times. Last time we went this one...
... crashed on top of me. Then it went up again, flew for about 20 minutes and crashed into a tree. I helped pull the main body out of the tree but his pot of honey was pretty tangled. Their pole was too short so I pulled up my truck so they could get a little closer.
Overall it's a nice event to visit. Plenty of kites. Plenty of area to picnic. Friendly people. |

Speaking about GTGs, this is the weekend we were thinking of trying for the action at 3rd Avenue, in San Mateo. today, I took a dry run out to 3rd Ave, and dry run it was. Because there was no wind, there were no sailors.
Now, I looked again at the charts, and I'm going to head out there again at around 2pm on Saturday and probably at the same time on Sunday unless Saturday is so good I fill a memory card...
If any other DPCers happen to show up, I'd love to see you. Rikki? md8speed? Anyone else?
As with anything else in nature, either the time is right or it isn't. And if things don't look good at 3rd Ave, I usually head to the Palo Alto Nature Preserve (in Palo Alto, Embarcadero Road, go east to the end, left to the duck pond) and see if any birds want portraits.

| I just realized that I can't make it this weekend (I have Pearl Jam tickets on Saturday), so I'm going to have to cross my name off. But I will definately be at the Berkeley Kite Festival |

If I'm not mistaken, the Kite Festival is this weekend - who's in?! Seems like a great opportunity for an "Action Shot"! I'm flying out to Houston on Sunday, so Saturday would be the day of choice for me. I'm sure it wouldn't be to hard to get the kids excited about a kite festival. :-)
Setting up a common meeting place and time (like we did for the SF Chinese New Year GTG) worked REALLY well. Any ideas on where we can all meet for this one? I'm not familiar with the area at all. |

Where in Berkeley is the kite festival? Since we finally have a car now, I can make it to more places outside of SF city limits.
NEVERMIND - Just saw the link to the kite festival above. I'm going to try and make it. I believe the North Beach Jazz Festival is also this weekend in SF.

I am in SF in the morning for the SF marathon, no I am not running, but a few friends of mine are and I am cheering for them!
I might be able to make it to the kite festival too, where do we meet ? |

The only day I can go is Saturday, the 29th. So it looks like the possibility of a relay GTG!
We ought to rattle GeneralE's chain, 'cause he has directions and knows the land. He'd know a place to meet, what time would be good, and all that.

| BTW, for the first time in the Kite Festival, they will be featuring the Hamamatsu Kites from Japan. These kites are amazing ranging from the small ones to 8'-10' wide! Definitely a must see! |

You talking about the walkway right next to the children's kite area? I'd be glad to meet there at 11:00.
