Tajhad: Well well i'll work to get the money so it's just a question of working a few more days to go from a 350D to a 30D so I think i'll get the 30D if you say it's more dust proof etc. Is the 30D a good cam to learn with ? Or is it too "pro" ?

Kirsty_mcn: That's a good idea, I know a few shops here in Paris that sell second hand cameras. Which cheap, but still good to learn SLR model would you recommend please?
A little question too, can a lenses made for a SLR camera be used on a dSLR camera?

Thanks again for your help everyone :)

You can get a good deal on a new or used 20D and save $200 to $500 if money is a concern. (used 20Ds with low use can be had for $800) You'll want lenses - there are 3 grades - cheap consumer, prosumer and pro. quality and price go up with each level, try and avoid the lowest level if at all possible. and you'll want a spare batter and a couple of 2Gb CF cards ($50 each or so).

a 20/30D is not to complex to learn on - same modes and such as a 300/350 but fewer limitations and some things are easier to access.

good lenses to consider (good image quality and good value for the money, you won't need to upgrade these lenses (maybe the little canon but it's only $75 and the sigma 70-300):
canon 50 1.8
tamron 24-135 3.5-5.6 SP
canon 70-200 F4
sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO super macro 2
tamron 17-50 2.8 SP
sigma 18-50 2.8 EX
canon 100 2.8 for macro work

there are a million lense out there, some great some good. you pretty much get what you pay for, but there are exceptions. a lot depends on what you want to shoot what lens is best.

I think it's misguided for anyone to think that the performance of the 20D/30D is any better than the 300D/350D when it comes to sensor dust, or being dustproof. There is no difference.

Really ?? I thought they were suppose to be better sealed than the 350 ?
