It is POURING outside!
I'm always seeing great rain and lighning shots on this site. How do you all do it? Do you just trhow a ziplock over your camera and go out in it? do you shoot through a window? What's your technique for this sort of thing?

many lightning shots are not in the storm. the storm is away in the distance. this is also a much safer way to photgraph lightning:) |

I shoot rain & lightning when I feel the need for a camera/lens upgrade ;-)
Seriously, shooting lightning can of course be a bit dangerous. Usually, you use the protection of a building overhang to shoot from under. Many times, it's possible to catch lightning shots before rain moves in, or after it is done.
For shots in the rain, there are numerous strategies for keeping equpment dry, ranging from the ol' plastic bag trick to a cohort holding an umbrella to taking advantage of natural/man made shelters, and many many more ideas. |

if you want closer lightning just stan there with a long rod, you're sure to find some that you want :)
