I'd just like to scream this out - check out the top ten 'desolates'
1 - Texas - Don Despain
2 - Stanford Ca. - Arpita Ghosh (bit of a sub-continent ring to that name?)
3 - Delhi & Punjab, India - Tejinder
4 - Manila, Philippines - David Trinidad
5 - Australia - Tim Boehm
6 - Puna, Hawaii - Anna Holdhazy
7 - Reading, UK (and a couple of other places) - Matt Haugland
8 - Oslo, Norway - Terje Sørgjerd
9 - Reykjavík, Iceland - Þorsteinn H. Ingibergsson (took a while for Iceland to show, eh?)
10- Smithfield, UT - Scott Cooley
It could be argued that places 1, 2, 6, 7 and 10 are all US entries, but even so, things are getting pretty global there...
I like. And congratulations to yous all for the pictures. Great stuff.
Edited to highlight countries (and again to edit the edit).

| It is great to see, the global thang. It's a big part of the fun of voting, for me at least, to see the great diversity of places represented. It's also great to see that diversity reflected in the forums. We truly do have a global site... not just USA and Iceland, LOL! |

Tee hee. But notice that nobody addends US to their locations when that's where they are. There's a fair way to go yet.
Edited to quote the right post...

Neither submitted images were taken in those locations.
#1 was taken of Ship Rock in far Northwestern New Mexico near the Arizona border.
#2 of "The Wave" mistakenly claims to be taken in Utah. It is actually just across the border in northern Arizona.
Those are the "desolate" places for those two images. Both are out in the middle of nowhere!

I don't. I'm an ugly American. But I'm not proud of it...

I said 'location' because that's the name of the field you fill in if you want it to show on your profile.
e.g.:
Location: Mesa, AZ USA
USA already! (insert smiley thing) |

It's being both at once that I'm not proud of.

| This is great. The fact is Texas could be a country, bigger than most other countries already and it's known as the Republic of Texas still. But to really get a look at desolation I had to leave the forests of San Antonio and venture into the Navajo Indian Reservation of northern New Mexico. Now that is indeed a desolate place. No wonder the indians left the Shiprock area about 1200 A.D. and then the white men sent them back in the 1800's. No-one wanted this part of the country. |
