Anyone have any advice or suggestions as to which lenses I can add to my collection. I eventually would like to have every option available to me.
What I currently have besides the kit lens are:

Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical IF for Nikon
Tamron SP AF 11-18mm Aspherical Di II LD IF f/4.5-5.6 for Nikon Digital
Tamron SP AF 200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD IF for Nikon
Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di for Nikon
Tamron 2X Teleconvert

I have Zoom and I have Macro and I have Wide. Am I missing anything important?

What would you add to this list?

How about a 50mm f/1.8 for low-light shooting?

While I have absolutely nothing against using third party lenses, I do think that it is best to buy same brand lenses whenever possible so I would buy some Nikon glass. Just out of curiousity, what made you decide buy all Tamron lenses and no Nikons ones?

prime lenses would be nice... but they'll probably make you hate your consumer zooms.

I would steer you clear of the Standard AF Tamron glass but their SP line is spectacular.

I have The Tammy SP 17-35mm f/2.8-4 and SP 28-75mm f/2.8 and I will let neither go. Both are tack sharp and colors are wonderful.

After shooting with an Ultra Wide a weekend ago I am seriously contemplating picking up the Tammy SP 11-18mm

I had the AF 28-300mm XR Di LD and traded it in as it wasn't all that. If you are planning on throwing that lens on the Teleconvertor I don't think the results will be good, as alone the lens is soft enough on the long end and needs plenty of light (goes to f/6.3 when you breath on the zoom ring).

I have played with my mom's Tammy 200-500mm and it seemed to be a pretty nice lens (only got to play about a half a day and it was overcast) very light, handholding is doable, but a monopod sures it up nicely.

Shop around for TC, the same Hoya glass goes into the (make sure to get the Pro versions) Tamron, Sigma and Kenko Teleplus Pro. The prices vary but the results don't

Just my thoughts...

Prime or Telephoto? Or do you mean a prime with reach?

For telephoto bang for buck a great place start if on a budget IMO would be Canon 70-200mm 4L, Great Proximity lens (distant birding is out) Tack sharp and just around $500 it is a work horse. Great portrait lens with awesome bokeh (which we are all probably confused about now), great for side line (decently lit) sporting events. A very good place to start.

Prime means the lens only has one focal length.
Telephoto means the lens has reach.

Telephoto zoom means the lens has multiple focal lengths with reach.

i have stayed away from the standard AF glass however my most recent purchase was the AF 28-300 I bought this to replace the kit lens. I wanted something that i can leave on the camrea as my every day lens that can also get banged around a bit and not cost a fortune to replace, I also wanted more range than the kit lens provided, This seemed like a pretty decent lens and it wont be a huge, huge loss if I trash it.

All my other Tamrons are SP. I love the 200-500 the most. a bit of a beast to lug around half the time but worth it when you look at the photos. Now when I know i wont need that kind of zoom I can rely on the 300mm to get me closer.

I have yet to use my wide angle lens I wanted to use it for one of the recent contest but didn't have it along when I had the chance to get the photo.

the Canon 300L F4 IS lens looks pretty darn good, there's also a non-IS version. The newer one with IS costs about $1000 iirc. I don't know what the older version goes for used. There's a Canon 400L 5.6 that goes for about $1000 i think as well. All of them are really good lenses, I'm not really sure of other brands primes, but there might be some cheaper alternatives like a different 400mm 5.6 for example.

i would probably start aiming for speed rather than coverage
skip the 50/1.8 go for the f/1.4
or fill out with Primes or specialty (28mm / 35mm PC or a fisheye)

That is what the guy at my local camera store said too. Go for speed.
I will be logging some hours in the camera shop in the coming weeks.

I'm looking to replace my old 50mm 1.4 manual focus with something more in the 30mm or 20mm range. I find the 50mm great for portraits and other shots where I'm in control of the setup, but thats not the reason I want a fast lens.
There is some really good quality glass available in the 20 - 30mm range and thats where I'm looking, rather than the 50mm.

Thoughts...

Tamron 17-50 2.8, 24-135 SP 3.5-5.6. First is good fast glass, teh second is very good walkaround glass. Not sure i'd keep the 28-300, but if you need a one lens for all focal lengths i suppose it might work.

YOu could hunt up a used 70-210 2.8 SP LD or get the sigma 70-200 2.8. (or the nikon version) YOu coud use your 2.0tc on a 2.8 telezoom.

if you don't realize the need for a certain lens, why buy one? Only you can say what you shoot the most. Do you find yourself not able to get a type of shot that you can't get with your current arsenal?

even the most "important" lens isn't "important" if you don't use it.

I'm gonna echo hopper here, and I know this is a few days late. Frankly I'd recommend picking one good lens and mastering it before trying to have a 30 pound bag with all the gadgets and gizmos. I know that's not sexy advice, but it's probably the best.

I have 2 lenses. the 24-105L and the 50/1.8. Do I want more? Every day. Do I need more? 98% of the time, no. I'm not as familar with Nikon's lineup, but pick a lens with average range, say 28-100 or 70-200 and go with it for six months or a year. Also buy expensive. If you suddenly were able to master all those lenses you had, you'd will probably have outgrown them all. Buy a lens you can grow INTO. Glass lasts nearly forever.
