Is there a way to tell how many photos you have taken over the life of your camera. I searched the D50 menu and didn't see anything on this, I searched this forum and while I know it has been covered at some point my search yielded 300 results and I didn't have all that time to search each one for this answer. Call me lazy, call me stupid, but please help.

As long as you didn't change the setting, the file number of the last picture you took should do it. If it's really closer to 1 than you think it should be, then you rolled over 9999.

I'll futz around with mine in a minute to tell for sure.

Alfresco just posted a link to this software and said it will extract the real number of shots.

Hey MK do you know of one for Canons?

Sorry, no. I only knew of this one courtesy of alfresco. A quick Google search seems to indicate that such a thing doesn't exist for the Canon line, with the exception of the 1D series for which is there is CanCount.

Thanks for looking. I hope to replace it with the 5d before it dies on me. I know I have taken around 10,000 shots this year alone. 3000 in one day. a kayak festival. never though I would get tired of taking photos. I was burnt out at the end of that day.

Bummer I can't get that software to load.

FYI for the canoneers: from what I've heard the only way to get a real click count is to send the camera to canon :(
