I just want an explanation why my Bokeh entry has fallen steadily for 2 days now - from 5.88 to 5.10- and it's still falling. 3 very positive comments, and one that seems to not understand teh challenge - seems he wants the image's subject to be the bokeh.

Except in that case it's spelled "black-light saber." |

Purple is the color of passion my friend. Plus it goes well with my shoes :-P
When choosing your weapon always know how to accesorize ... you never know who may see you dueling.

No duels - we'll go troll hunting! No license needed - it's always open season on trolls!

I don't really care for troll. The meat is a bit gaimy and tough. I hear fairy is tasty though.

I haven't looked at your challenge entries, so don't take this as an artistic insult, but mathematical logic: Two is not a very good sample size. Plus, it is just sort of possible that maybe instead of being too generous, your photos just aren't as good as a lot of other peoples' photos are.

I was not thinking of my own pictures, as I have no ribbons.
I am thinking of ribbon pictures, when you look up a 8.5 avg picture, everything is perfect about the picture ... meets challenge ... focus ... no-one in their right mind can say it is NOT breathtaking and stunning. Some can rate it lower, yes, maybe down to four or in that order, but a top notch picture (no, NOT one of mine) that "everyone" likes - why does it still get some one and two votes??? THOSE are the votes I would look into ... who did that, ask them to come up with an explanation ...

Here is one example - it is even getting more "ones" than "twos" and "threes"!
//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=234617
OK, if you don't like ants, or the colour red, or whatever is the problem, but anything below 4 on that picture requires a good reason!
Now, I still gather you guys say this is just the way it is, and a few ones will not take his ribbon away ... OK, but I choose to believe that those "ones" have been looked into ... did they enter themselves in the competition? Did they give out ones to other nice pictures? (etc)

Originally posted by B74A: Yes, I saw that, and I realize not everyone agrees. But giving a "one" is really serious, it really means your picture is so bad it might as well have been a black square, or random noise. So a stunning picture, getting a score of 8+ - whoever votes a "one" on that should have their profiles checked! I hope it is already done.
Sorry, but to me, if someone on MULTIPLE occasions gives out VERY low scores for OBVIOUSLY splendid pictures it is pure sabotage. |
(1) Voting methodology is subjective. Some people vote tough. Others do not. Some vote strictly 1 or 10 and nothing in between. Others have complicated algorithms. There is no right way.
(2) "Really serious?" Are you serious? Do you know how silly that sounds? This is the internet, not the Cuban Missile Crisis!
(3) "OBVIOUSLY splendid"... so anyone who doesn't share your opinion on a photo is OBVIOUSLY what... an idiot? Uneducated? A blind halfwit? An IKEA-loving yuppie? Right.

I got 8 ones on this picture:
I was disappointed, because I didn't think it deserved a one, much less eight of them, but I think it has to do more with the style of picture than with any deliberate attempt to lower the score. Some pictures just get more low scores for some reason.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't think it's worth it to worry about it, or to get upset over it. It happens. So what.

I'm guessing a few of those ones wre voters that thought the shot was PP'd to look that way.
**IT happens. Doesn't mean it was intentional. Quite often people are turned-off completely by a photo for whatever reason - lame or no.
Got a few like that myself. Nudity Warning

Why care why they voted the way they did, honestly? You're talking about 3% of the people who voted on the pic. They didn't like it. That was their opinion and there is no way to effectively police people's opinions. Why should people need to justify why they don't like something? The people who do like it don't have to. Break down the voting however you want - it's still based on opinions and anyone can vote anyway they please.
Trolls don't exist. Trolls don't exist. Trolls don't exist. They are fun to joke about, but they just don't exist. In a pool of THOUSANDS of people VARYING OPINIONS and VOTING STYLES do exist though. That doesn't make the person a troll or invalidate their opinion - and it certainly shouldn't require them to face an inquisition every contest about why their opinion differs from the "majority".
This isn't aimed at any person in particular, I'm talking about the same tired old argument that comes up virtually every contest and gets debated over and over again despite the fact it was debated the week before.

folks! for those who view the site at work, can you please remember to either title your threads with a nudity warning or make all nude photos text links instead of thumbnails? We don't want anyone getting in trouble!
