Well, I have learned that a good composition and decent editing won't make up for the presence of pre-existing artwork (even if not a literal representation) as far as votes are concerned.

challenge entry:
I am so proud of the editing that I was able to do - I think I did a great job of making certain things pop. I also spent a ton of time on composition and I am satisfied with that as well. I was tempted to get really discouraged with the results here but then remembered what I had written (the resolutions in my profile) and realized that there was a bright side to this --- This will be good to know for the future!! :-)

Don't worry too much. Take mine for example. I was in the 33% range, and the commentors gave me an average of 7 and above. Sometimes you just have to make something that you like, and be proud of it.

I'm still new here. But I am shaking my head over my scores this week. I thought I had a shot at a "6" or so, which would have been my personal best. I Thought I had a clever idea, I thought I executed it well. Maybe people didn't think that paying good money for water that is free from the tap is indulgent?
And what's with the 1's, 2's and 3's ??? |

Oh dear. This is Deja Vu. My second entry turned out to be my worst scorer. It, too, was basede on water being a luxury in the Affluence challenge. Hmmm! I also, got pretty upset over it at the time.
